UTV Inc. Takes Baja 1000 in RZR XP 4 1000

Jagged X takes second, Team UXC Racing finished fourth on Scrambler XP 1000 EPS and seals Sportsman ATV Championship.

Minneapolis, Nov. 20, 2014-This year’s point-to-point Baja 1000 was 1275 miles of brutal terrain testing both machine and driver. Polaris RZR would go into the race as the defending champion, and the Scrambler XP 1000 would make a maiden voyage with Team UXC racing at the helm.
Nineteen side-by-sides, including 13 RZRs, would start the race and eight side-by-sides, six being RZRs, would finish. First-time Baja 1000 driver of record Johnny Angal of UTV Inc., and his drivers Brian Bush, Branden Sims and Justin Quinn, in their No. 1919 RZR XP 4 1000 would take the grueling race. Jagged X in the No. 1932 with drivers Matt Parks, Brandon Schueler and Craig Scanlon took second.
UTV Inc. and Jagged X would keep things interesting throughout the race battling the whole way down the peninsula. There would be lead changes, break downs and even a tangle between the two, but, in the end, the two would finish the 33-and-a-half hour race, three minutes apart. Even more impressive, UTV Inc. and Jagged X would finish 47 and 48 overall with about 239 starters and 140 finishers. Also finishing in the Top 5 for UTVs would be the No. 1921 RZR of Jamie Kirkpatrick/Tire Balls in fourth and the No. 1923 of Ben Bischoff who was driving a brand-new Holz Racing Products built Polaris RZR in his first UTV race ever, finishing fifth. Polaris Factory Racer Cognito Racing would finish seventh in the No. 1908, and the No. 1927 RZR of Frank Bushman was eighth.
On the ATV side, Team UXC Racing would come into the Baja 1000 leading the Sportsman Quad Class as the lone 4×4 going up against sport quads all season. The Baja 1000 would see 15 ATVs in the Sportsman Quad Class take the line, four being Scrambler XP ATVs including Team UXC Racing’s No. 140A. Team UXC Racing’s Don Higbee, Michael Swift, Chris Robinson, Jason Wade and Michael Burrows would finish fourth out of six finishers, mark in the history books the first national series ATV title for the new Scrambler XP 1000 and show the viability of the Scrambler as a desert race vehicle.
“Competing in the Baja 1000 takes an incredible amount of planning
and dedication, and Polaris would like to congratulate all racers running Polaris vehicles on their successes,” said Donna Beadle, race team manager for Polaris. “Polaris is extremely honored to have a RZR win the UTV class for the second year in a row, and thanks Team UXC Racing for showing the desert racing community that the Scrambler is the real deal in the desert.”

Polaris Announces Grand Opening of Manufacturing Facility in Poland

Opole Mfg Facility IMG_9401 8.5.2014The brand-new facility will be Polaris’ first dedicated manufacturing facility
for Off-Road Vehicles outside North America

MINNEAPOLIS (Sept. 23, 2014) – Polaris Industries Inc. (NYSE:PII) today announced the grand opening of its new manufacturing facility in Opole, Poland. The 345,000-square-foot facility will be the first Polaris plant dedicated to manufacturing Off-Road Vehicles (ORV’s) outside of North America.

Employee training has already begun at the Opole facility which will employ 300 people in 2015 and should begin shipments to customers in the first quarter of 2015. The plant will produce approximately 35 different ORV vehicle models in 2015 and ship them to six subsidiaries and over thirty distributors in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (“EMEA”) region. Opole will also house research and design for the Europe, Middle East and Africa markets allowing vehicles to be tailored to local needs.

“With a stated goal of a third of our total Company sales outside North America, the Opole facility is a cornerstone for our international growth plans, as it provides both a timely capacity increase and a localized manufacturing presence that allows us to provide the best possible experience for our customers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa,” said Scott Wine, Polaris Chairman and CEO. “We are incredibly excited to add the highly-skilled employees in Poland to our outstanding Polaris team and confident in their ability to spur ongoing growth in the EMEA region.”

“With our engineering and manufacturing assets in Poland, we will be able to develop and manufacture products specifically for this market. We will reduce the order lead time for our customers and will be able to provide better customer service. We also have opportunities to source more of our component parts locally from suppliers within the region. This will be a big benefit to this entire region” said Suresh Krishna, Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Allowing Polaris to manufacture products locally for the EMEA region, the Opole facility will improve the supply chain and help the company keep up with strong demand for its wide range of products. The facility will also focus on operational efficiency by incorporating LEAN manufacturing processes such as 5S implementation and visual management methodology.

“This project is the greatest example that dreams come true. We are very proud that Polaris has decided to choose Opole as a partner on the other side of the ocean,” said Opole President Ryszard Zembaczyński. “It was a big challenge to complete this project for the City, Opole institutions and Opole University of Technology. I do believe Polaris feels here at home.”
The Opole facility took just over a year to construct with only 15 months lapsed from the time the building contract was signed to production start. The Building features include a 2,500 meter product test track and energy saving paint systems. The plant has capacity for up to 500 employees to help Polaris meet future market demand.

This facility is built on nearly 30 acres, within the Walbrzych Special Economic Zone in Opole, Poland, an area dedicated to encouraging economic growth in the region.

Inaugural Camp RZR East was Smashing Success

POL5150_4066Minneapolis, Sept 23, 2014-Camp RZR rolled into Brimstone, in Huntsville, Tenn. last weekend and was met with an overwhelmingly positive response with more than 12,000 people attending, making it the largest event ever held at Brimstone.
“Polaris’ Camp RZR exceeded our expectations for attendance and overall benefit for the town of Huntsville, Tenn.,” said Mayor George W. Potter.
Camp RZR East provided attendees with entertainment, giveaways, vendors, a kid’s zone and Polaris staff on hand to answer questions. Attendees experienced acoustic sets at the “RZR Oasis” with Josh Thompson and Lindsay Ell; and rocked out to nighttime entertainment including Natalie Stovall and The Drive, Josh Thompson, Borrowed Blue, Lindsay Ell, and Dierks Bentley.
To keep riders riding, the event featured a service area; and if attendees were interested in new Polaris vehicles, the Experience Tour was on hand and provided hundreds of demo rides on the latest and greatest RZR and ACE products. Red Bull’s Motocross Freestyler Ronnie Renner captured the celebrity RZR 170 race and attendees appreciated the daily giveaways by giving the new Polaris RZR Prize Wheel a spin.
“RZR started in trail country, so we’re thrilled to bring Camp RZR to East Tennessee and pay respect to all the long-time RZR owners of the East,” said Jason DiFuccia, senior marketing manager of Off-Road Vehicles for Polaris. “The reception to the event was incredible and we can’t wait to come back and party again next year.”
Polaris RZR also will be hosting the original Camp RZR, in Glamis, Calif., from Oct. 31-Nov. 2.

2014.5 Polaris Sportsman ACE

Polaris Sportsman ACE single seat sit-in ATVWhen I got back from Texas where I was test driving the 2014.5 Polaris Sportsman ACE, I showed my wife Robin some video footage of the new machine. She said, “I’d like to drive one of those.” Wow, Polaris really does get their target audience. They wanted to build a machine that would appeal to the everyday motorist and introduce them to off-roading. Robin could step right out or her WRX and into the ACE and feel right at home. That Robin would be attracted to this cute, new little machine by Polaris will come as no surprise to Polaris’ David Longren, vice president of Polaris’ Off-Road Division. “In creating the Sportsman ACE, we wanted to not only appeal to current off-road enthusiasts, but develop a vehicle that brings new customers to off-road recreation,” said Longren. ” We accomplished this by coupling an easy-to-use, nimble platform with a confident and secure ride that, together, provides drivers of all experience levels a new way to experience the outdoors.” At first glance, the Sportsman ACE looks like a single seat version of the ubiquitous Polaris RZR side-by-side. But Polaris emphasizes the “revolutionary, sit-in chassis” of the Sportsman ACE because the primary architecture is not that of the RZR. It comes from the Polaris Sportsman ATV, which is a utility quad. Because the ACE is the only Sportsman that places its riders in a car seat where they can’t shift weight for cornering and for negotiating side hills like you can on a quad, they had to significantly lower the center of gravity with a mid-engine and much lower seat position.Polaris Sportsman ACE single seat sit-in ATV crossing mud hole In addition, the seat is centered side-to-side, which also helps with vehicle balance. Another goal for this newbie-friendly, off-road machine was to make it easy to get in and out of. While experienced motorheads may like the idea of climbing into a cockpit like you do with the RZR, it can be an imposition to the casual rider. McPherson style front struts helped make this ingress and egress requirement happen by leaving enough room behind the front wheels for nice curb-less door openings on both sides. Even with a low center of gravity, the ACE suspension provides an impressive 10.25 inches of ground
clearance, which we put to good use on our test rides in Marble Falls, Texas where we frequently drove over bowling-ball sized rocks and negotiated deep ruts. The suspension also provides 9.5 inches of rear travel due to its fully independent rear suspension (IRS), twin tube shocks and adjustable preload. The suspension works well, but it’s better on a Sportsman
quad, which lets you take advantage of an additional suspension system, your bent knees. Powering the Sportsman ACE is an all-new 32 horsepower ProStar Electronic Fuel Injected (EFI) Engine featuring an internal counter-balance shaft for smooth, vibration-free power. Dual overhead camshafts and a 4-valve cylinder head deliver solid power with nearly instant throttle response. The engine is designed to reduce internal friction, which means it’s quiet and very fuel-efficient. The Sportsman ACE has a unique ROPS cab frame to deliver peace of mind previously found only on side-by-sides. In our testing, we noticed that the
trapezoidal shape of the roll cage, not possible in a side-by-side, allows the ACE to get through brushy trails with a minimum of brush contact. This can be important for a machine designed to travel ATV trails. The high-backed, well bolstered bucket seat is both comfortable and secure. The seat adjusts 4 inches front to back, which is another feature drivers are accustomed to in their cars and will be appreciated when finding a comfortable position for off-road driving. Also adjustable is the steering wheel, which
has 3.5 inches of tilt adjustment. The Sportsman ACE is equipped with the Polaris On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system, which, when switched on, automatically engages when needed. Of course we had to test the four wheel drive by finding some deep mud holes, which the ACE handled quite well. The AWD system together with exceptional ground clearance and hi-lo transmission selection makes the ACE a true off-road performer. Overall Polaris Sportsman ACE single seat sit-in ATV fits in truck bedI found the Polaris Sportsman ACE to be fun to drive. I appreciated the easy ingress and egress . The adjustable seat and steering wheel meant I could find the right setup for comfort and control. The 32hp power plant provided good acceleration for this light, one-person machine. The low center of gravity and well balanced suspension felt stable when taking corners at aggressive speeds, which means it doesn’t require advanced driving skills to keep
it upright. With all of these features at only $7,499 it looks like Polaris has another winner.

Polaris Adds More Power to the 2015 RZR XP 1000 and RZR XP 4 1000

MEDINA, MN- (July 1, 2014) Polaris Industries Inc. (NYSE: PII), the leading manufacturer of off-road vehicles, today announced the Model Year 2015 RZR XP 1000 and RZR XP 4 1000 will feature a higher output 110 horsepower to dominate the dunes, desert, trails, race track or anything that stands in their way.

Introduced for Model Year 2014, the RZR XP 1000 and XP 4 1000 brought significant innovations to each of the hallmark Power, Suspension and Agility aspects of RZR while adding a new level of interior comfort and accessory customization. The vehicles were built for the pinnacle of performance with an all-new Polaris ProStar 1000 engine that provided an industry-leading 107 horsepower with a true 999cc of displacement, making it the most powerful and largest engine in its class. For 2015, Polaris ups the ante again by giving the class-leading vehicles an incremental power upgrade to keep RZR at the top of its game.

“As always, RZR has been the leader of recreational side-by-sides due to their ultimate combination of power, suspension and agility,” said Craig Scanlon, general manager of Polaris Side-by-Side Vehicles. “Even though we just launched the RZR XP 1000 and XP 4 1000 last year, we’re always looking to improve upon every aspect of our vehicles’ performance.”

To achieve 110 horsepower, the 2015 RZR XP 1000 and XP 4 1000 feature a new calibration with high-output cams, stiffer valve springs and a higher compression ratio of 11:1. The upgraded horsepower further increases the RZR XP 1000 and XP 4 1000 dominance in power with nine-percent more power than anything else in their classes. A revised exhaust system, incorporating closed loop control and catalyst technology, enables the ProStar 1000 to not simply add power, but also be cleaner and more efficient. To handle the increased power, the 2015 RZR XP 1000 and XP 4 1000 feature new direct flow intake covers, new belt and a new clutch cover with more ducting providing two times more airflow directly to the clutches.

The RZR XP 1000 will be available in Havasu Red Pearl, Voodoo Blue and White Lightning, and the RZR XP 4 1000 in Havasu Red Pearl and Voodoo Blue. All units feature standard Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and will be available in dealerships starting in July.
